TECHNICAL DRAWINGS OF MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS
SUPPLEMENT 2000
On microfiche
Edited by R.J.M. van Acht , Curator of Musical Instruments, Gemeentemuseum, The Hague, The Netherlands
Background
In 1995 MMF published "Technical Drawings of Musical Instruments in Public Collections of the World on Microfiche", edited by Rob van Acht of the Gemeentemuseum in The Hague with the cooperation of 25 collections of musical instruments around the world. This initial micropublication contains drawings of 512 instruments on 544 microfiches.
First supplement now available
In continuing cooperation with editor Rob van Acht, MMF is now able to offer a first supplement to this important body of materials (Supplement 2000), which contains technical drawings of 152 musical instruments, stands and mouthpieces on 120 microfiches.
Contributors
New to the project, the Musée de la Musique in Paris is one of the major contributors to this supplement, which also includes drawings from the Gemeentemuseum, and collections in Edinburgh, Stockholm and Vienna.
Types of instruments
Many different kinds of musical instruments are represented in this micropublication. In particular the drawings of 44 mouthpieces from three different centuries, made by the Collection of Historic Musical Instruments from the University of Edinburgh, are an impressive part of the collection of wind instruments. Further, the 33 technical drawings of Dutch oboes and bassoons by the Gemeentemuseum give a good overview of wind-instrument making in the 17th and 18th centuries in the Netherlands.
Second supplement in preparation
The next supplement to this collection of technical drawings of musical instruments is already in preparation and will be published in 2001. This supplement will contain new drawings of about a hundred musical instruments from, among others, twelve collections that are new to this project.
