The Loeber Collection of the Dutch Foundation for Paper History
This international collection on the history and technology of paper and paper making was brought together by the patient and painstaking work of E.G. Loeber, himself from a family of paper dealers, in the course of more than forty years of travels and research in many countries.
The collection consists of four parts.
Watermarks: drawings of approximately 19,000 watermarks collected internationally, covering the period seventeenth to nineteenth centuries with some earlier examples. The collection is organized according to the Briquet method and completely indexed.
Technical drawings: approximately 7,000 scale drawings of paper-making tools, machinery, and other paraphernalia, in particular paper molds, made by E.G. Loeber in the course of his research in Europe and elsewhere, organized typologically.
Photo collection: approximately 15,000 photos of paper-making tools, machinery, materials, mills, factories, etc., made by E.G. Loeber in the course of his research in Europe and elsewhere, organized by country and within country typologically.
Multilingual terminology dictionary of the paper business: unique unpublished manuscript of 43 volumes in eight languages, compiled by E.G. Loeber. The main definition is in English and German, synonyms in 6 other languages: Dutch, French, Swedish, Danish, Spanish, Italian. Loeber began his studies by gathering this linguistic material, which then inspired him to seek out and record the objects signified by the words in this compendium.
