INDEX TO COLONIAL SUBJECTS IN DUTCH NEWSPAPERS

(MAINLY THE DUTCH EAST AND WEST INDIES), 1843-1947

Like its counterpart the Index to Dutch-language Indonesian Newspapers 1810-1923, this index in handwritten form was compiled by civil servants of the former Ministry of the Colonies of the Netherlands for the use of the Minister and his staff. Only one copy exists.

From over forty Dutch newspapers the articles on colonial subjects, mainly concerning the Dutch East and West Indies, but also articles about other colonial powers and Asian nations, were selected and indexed. The index was kept annually, and in this micropublication each year starts on a new microfiche, containing the key words from A to Z for that year. These alphabetically ordered key words (in Dutch) are geographical names, personal names and subject terms and they refer to one-line descriptions of the contents of an article in a newspaper, with the date of publication.
